About Us.

  • OUR PROCESS
  • OUR TEAM
  • OUR STORY
  • 1.
    Tender or Client Appointment.

We take a collaborative approach with everyone we work with, clients and architects alike. We make a point of getting to know you and your architect prior to any work commences. Understanding the design is a really important part of the process and allows us to start and strengthen the working relationships that are integral to making a project successful.

At the end of this stage, we’ll present a fixed price quote according to the final architects’ designs, plans, elevations and specifications.

    2.
    Construction.

Once you’ve appointed us as your construction company, your project will be managed by our Construction Supervisor. They will be responsible for all day-to-day coordination during the whole build process. You’ll meet with them on-site regularly to be kept informed of progress, allowing more detailed discussions on design decisions as they become relevant.

    3.
    Handover.

On completion of all works, we get to the exciting part – handover of key, any final instructions and warranties. After a three month maintenance period we’ll schedule a meeting to run over the list of items that require maintenance and/or attention. We’ll supply you with a list of relevant suppliers and/or trades that will coordinate these outstanding items at a time and date that is convenient with you.

  • Jon Begg DIRECTOR

Jon’s love of building was fueled by a fifteen-year stint fitting out circa 1900 classic sailing and motor yachts in France and Italy, as well as the world’s super yachts in France and the States. In this time he also worked on projects in villas in the south of France. During this time he learnt marine carpentry techniques to work with irregular forms, how to source the most appropriate materials for the task from around Europe and how to seamlessly integrate new with century old timbers, and what handcrafted quality really means.

  • Island Habitats combines craftsmanship and solid construction techniques mixed in with a well-rounded understanding of materials from around the world to build beautiful habitats for us to dwell in. They deliver architecturally designed contemporary homes, passive construction for our homes of the future, major renovations to villas & bungalows and apartment fit outs. In the commercial sector, hospitality fit outs and commercial facelifts.
Island Habitats is led by Jon Begg. Jon’s been a builder all of his working life, it’s in his blood and beautiful construction is what gets him up in the morning.
A diverse and vast mix of environments, materials and clients has afforded Jon an understanding of this industry that few others experience. He knows how to deliver superb craftsmanship.
What that means today is that he’ll assemble his team depending on the size of the project, making sure that every builder and any other tradesman under his direction will bring the same level of precision and passion to the job that he demands of himself.
With the main focus on the greater Auckland area and its islands of the Hauraki Gulf in New Zealand, Island Habitats builds distinctive and unique structures and creates beautiful spaces that inspire human relationships to be enjoyed.

We are proud supporters of the Auckland Coastguard and Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust
